Several of Miriam's male cousins, aged 22 to over 30, have already asked her father for her hand in marriage, although she is not interested in marrying any of them. Her father, rather than giving any flat-out refusal, has put them all off with, "She's not finished with school yet ... but I don't think there should be a problem."
Both Mariam and Parveen think marrying your cousin is totally disgusting, even though it is fairly common in their home culture. I'm pretty sure Audrey would find it disgusting, too!
