Timing is everything...

This morning at church we noticed a group of women wearing headscarves, accompanied by men in flowing robes.  Not having seen this kind of dress at church before, it immediately piqued my interest.

A few minutes later, the pastor called mentioned that there was a group of people visiting from Africa, where the church has a ministry to refugees from Western Sahara.  Ooh!

My awareness of many world events and geography is pretty poor, so let me show you where Western Sahara is:

Oops, that's right, it's just south of Morocco!

The speaker began talking about his people group, and how they were displaced when Morocco invaded their country 37 years ago.  Half the population fled the country in the dispute, and the other half remained, but the refugees have not returned home, but still live in Saharawi refugee camps.

While I began the service wishing Miriam was there to mix with these fellow West Africans, in a few minutes I was glad that she hasn't arrived yet.  Can you imagine traveling to Pakistan to live for the year, and the very first time you go to the Mosque there is a speaker talking about how the US invaded their country and they have been forced to live in a refugee camp for 37 years?  Slightly intimidating.

So, thank you LORD that Miriam was not with us yet.  Even though this discussion will come up eventually, probably not the best subject for the first 3 days.
